Uduaghan Expresses Satisfaction With LG Polls

Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, has hailed the Local Government Elections held in the state yesterday as one of the best organised polls.
Speaking in his Abigborodo hometown shortly after casting his vote at Unit I, Ward 6, located at Abigborodo Primary School Polling Station in Warri North Local Government, the Governor said reports he received indicated that the exercise was largely peaceful in all parts of the state.
He said there were some hitches, delays and security situation which were promptly dealt with to enable the people exercise their franchise.

The governor commended the people of the state for keeping faith with the exercise and expressed happiness that all went well.
Commenting specifically about the exercise in Warri North, Dr. Uduaghan said certain elements wanted to disrupt the exercise but that security was called in to handle the situation.
He also expressed happiness at the huge turnout of voters for the exercise and urged the people of the state to remain peaceful.
Also, the Delta State Deputy Governor, Prof Amos Utuama, SAN, yesterday commended the people of Otu-Jeremi in Ughelli South Local Government Area, for a peaceful conduct during the Delta State local government election.
Prof. Utuama, in company of his wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Nelly Utuama, cast their votes in Jeremi Ward 3 Unit 4, Otu-Jeremi.
Speaking to newsmen, he expressed satisfaction over the large turnout of electorates in the area.
“The turnout is very impressive, I have never seen such turnout as large as this, maybe it is due to the local nature of the election, so everybody is interested in who become the chairman and counsellor of his or her local government and ward”. Prof. Utuama stated.
Speaking further, he said, “I thank the people, my people for being politically aware of their civic responsibility and for doing that peacefully. I thank and plead with them to continue to support the PDP and the government of Delta State and I want to assure them that by the grace of God, we will get to our destination”.
In another development, the conduct of the local government elections in Oshimili South Local Government Area was peaceful with the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Peter Onwusanya, commending the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) and security agencies for the arrangements put in place for the elections.
The Speaker made the commendation while speaking with newsmen shortly after he was accredited to vote in his Ward Four, Unit Eight, Umuezei Asaba at about 9.30am.
The Speaker, who expressed confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will emerge victorious at the polls, said the arrangements underscored preparations for the elections.
He commended the people’s turn out for the accreditation and voting, saying that more voters were expected to turn up for accreditation and voting.
Hon. Onwusanya advised candidates for the elections to accept defeat in good fate and urged losers to congratulate the winners while the winners should carry everybody along.
Also speaking, the Chairman of PDP in Oshimili South Local Government Area, Evangelist Ebialim Maduemezie, said the party was confident of victory considering the preparations made for the elections.
He also commended DSIEC and security agencies for the arrangements put in place.
On their part, the Senior Special Assistant to the Speaker, Ogbueshi Joseph Ikediashi, and a PDP leader, Elder Charles Kpalobi, said the elections were peaceful and PDP was sure of victory.
Speaking to The Pointer, some DSIEC officials said they arrived at their polling units as early as 7am to conduct the election, adding that accreditation was peaceful maintaining that voting proper would commence as from 12noon.
Meanwhile, the Secretary to the Delta State Government (SSG), Comrade Ovuozourie Macaulay, has described yesterday`s local government election in Owhelogbo town and the entire Isoko North Local Government Area as peaceful and orderly.
The SSG stated this while fielding questions from newsmen shortly after voting at Unit 4, Ward 2 in Owhelogbo, his hometown. He commended the people for coming out to exercise their franchise, saying that political awareness of the people was paying off.
